I know of someone with varicose veins who is going to have surgery. I read in the archives you're suggested procedure for this. Does there come a point where surgery would be necessary or can it always be resolved by what you suggested?
Thanks,
Peggy

Dear PeggyH,
The Shute brothers (MDs) in Canada have had the best approach to this that I know of. Their clinic has been world famous for more than 40 years. You could get your library to find you some of their publications.
However, there DOES come a point where the mechanical
realities of the leg veins preclude any approach except surgery (or by the Grace of God).
It also matters a lot whether the problem is with the deep veins or the superficial ones. Of course, all one can see is the superficial ones but any doc would know how to do the simple physical tests needed to determine if the deep veins had also lost their valvular competency.
Let us know what you learn.
