severe constipation

I have always been proned to constipation and have taken Perdiem with senna for years. It has recently been taken off the market because the distributor stopped producing. I have never found anything that would work. I am having only one BM per week. Does anyone know an alternative to what I have been taking that might work? Has anyone elso been on Perdiem and has found an alternative? I am getting desperate for an answer. All other over the counter products do nothing! Thanks for any input.
Bette

Hi Bette,

Do you eat lots of whole vegetables every day? Do you take walks?

Best wishes,
Happygal

My experience with senna it is very harsh,It messed me up bad. I went thru a series of colonics but did not solve anything. You need to follow dr stolls constipation protocol-if you are prone to gas problems I my self started slow with the fiber. I am still working on my problem and yes diet is important too. The senna forces the stool thru and you can lose normal bowel function. Cascara is safer but still you can be dependant on it. Magnesium helps me some but don't take the the citrate it is as bad as senna.I started on senna cause I bought shaklee products and trusted them but there herblax was the one with the senna in it. I feel it ruined me. Vitamin c can help too.

Hi, Bette.

Now you have your original problem PLUS a laxative habit.

It will take about 6 months for your colon to begin to believe that you are not going to give it a kick in the butt to make it move. Then, it will begin to reestablish it's own normal regularity.

Do the constipation protocol suggested for children that are witholding and persist until your colon begins moving on it's own.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

I had to laugh out loud when I read your answer. You're right of course, why start a laxative habit?

I have had this problem for years and still do at times when I go on trips.....I have tried perdiem and my mother loves it. You may not believe this, but I started drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day. After the first day, (and I was constipated) and after only 3 glasses of water, I finally went to the bathroom. After the 4th glass, I went again. I am now a firm believer in water. (straight from the facet)
