tonsil stones

About 4 months ago, I suddenly developed 'tonsil stones'/ tonsiliths - completely out of the blue. Some background......I am a 20 yr old student...My health has not been too great for the past year....skin and eye infections, tonsilitus, constantly tired etc....3 months ago I had an Epstein-Barr blood test which was positive...this possibly explains the bad health....also found I was highly allergic to dust house mite (this explains my blocked ears and nose).

I now have the option of having my tonsils out in a few weeks (I am having a vocal cord cyst removed so will be having a general anaesetic then). I really need to know what the best thing is to do about the tonsil stones, I am completely confused - I keep reading and being told contradictory information. I understand from looking on the internet my options are: 1. Leaving my tonsils and using mouthwashes etc - not sure if I want to do this for my entire life! 2. Removing my tosils (but will the infection spread elsewhere? are there bad side effects?) 3. Laser to smooth the tonsils

Please let me know what you think is the best option for my long term health! My ECT docter doesn't really have any idea

Thank you so much

I think that perhaps the reason for your ECT doctor's not "having an opinion" is so that you can't sue him if his opinion is wrong, which is very sad. Is there any way that you can get a second opinion (or third?) What do your parents say? If your tonsils are that diseased, then you have no other option but to have them removed. However, you do not know that. I am certainly no expert, but I have never heard of an infection "spreading" because the tonsils were removed. However, it is more serious when you are an adult than when you are a young child. Please don't rely on college doctors to advise you. Dr. Stoll will answer soon. Best of luck!

Hi Sally,

Dr. Stoll can advise you about your tonsils, but for your long term overall health (so you don't spend your whole life tired with infections, etc.) is the Three-Legged Stool. Read the article "How to be Healthy" on the homepaage for the overview, and look up terms and get more information in the glossary, articles, and archives.

Best wishes,
Happygal

Hi, Sally.

"If thy hand offend thee, cut it off!"

Even though you may need your tonsils removed at this atage that will do NOTHING about why this is happening to you.

Should you remove your eyes because you are having eye infections next? Look at each of your complaints separately (which is how your docs are looking at this). Even in medical school (40 years ago) we were taught that most often EVERYTHING a person complains about is probably being caused by the same underlying condition.

In my opinion, this principle is abandoned by most physicians as soon as they get into practice because it gets in the way of making massive amounts of money!

You need to practice serious wellness as soon as you can learn PRECISELY what that is. See the glossary and the how to be healthy home page article. Then go to the archives until you begin to believe you know what this entails.

Within 6-12 months of practicing the 3 legs of the wellness stool, you will not have any of the symptoms you mentioned here. There are plenty of testimonials in the archives.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
