I can't figure this out.

For the last few days, I have had this red area, about the size of a dime, on the top of my hand.

It itches like crazy most of the time, and then other times it stops. Sometimes it's really red, other times it looks like it's barely visible. It does not appear raised, but when I feel it. there's some kind of "lump" under the skin.

I don't know what to make of it. Contact dermatitis was my first guess, but it's lasted for 4 days and came out of nowhere. Bug bite doesn't make sense because there are no marks and it doesn't look like one.

Could it be a herpes infection...on the hand? I don't see any blisters....yet.

This is really confusing!
