My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago. There was also brain involvement. He had gamma knife laser surgery, lung surgery, chemo and radiation. The 1st week in August his MRI and Pet scan were clear of any cancer. The past few weeks he has been extremely fatigued, lost 12 pounds due to no appetite and has constant pain in his back and left side.
The dr decided to schedule a PET scan 6 weeks earlier than planned. Today we got the results: there are hot spots in the remainder of his left lung, with some fluid buildup, in his adrenal glands, and in his lower back. The dr said the good news is that there is not a lot of areas; bad news, it is manageable, but not curable. They want to put him on oral Tarceva, and if that doesn't work in a month, then chemo.
My husband was relieved by the news, I will not tell him, but i am scared that all this happened in less than 2 months, and maybe we should be getting things in order. I never thought that we would be in this position and it is difficult to know if the decisions being made are the right ones. Any feedback will be appreciated. T.Y. Janice
