My mother always baked the yellow bread (lot of eggs) and would place an egg or two on top (always a red egg). Always a shiny egg wash over the crust. She would also bake a 25 cent piece within the
dough for some lucky person who hopefully would not choke on it:) I think it was more a Greek thing since none of my Italian friends ever mentioned their parents doing this with their Easter bread.
